Swap-v2

What is a swap in trading?

A swap is an overnight fee that may be charged or credited when you hold a position open past the end of the trading day. It reflects the interest rate differential between two currencies in a forex pair, or other costs associated with the underlying instrument.

What is a swap-free account?

A swap-free account allows you to hold trading positions overnight without incurring swap fees or charges. Originally designed for traders who follow Islamic finance principles, swap-free accounts are especially useful for traders who follow specific financial principles or prefer cleaner overnight cost structures.

How can I open a swap-free account?

To open a swap-free account, please register for a Taurex trading account and contact the Taurex support team at support@tradetaurex.com to request the swap-free option.

What happens when the swap-free period ends?

If a position remains open beyond the swap-free period, a swap fee will be applied daily until the position is closed. This fee is outlined in our account rates spreadsheet and is not applied retroactively.

  • On MT4 platforms, the fee will appear as a Swap Charge.
  • On MT5 platforms, it will appear as a Balance Operation.

Please Note: For certain symbols excluded from the swap-free list, the swap fee may apply from the first day the position is opened. Once triggered, the fee is applicable to long, short, and hedged positions.

Where can I find Taurex’s swap rates?

What is the 3-day swap and how does it work?

In Forex and CFD trading, if a swap‑free period covers 3 calendar days, that counts as 3 swap‑free nights, not collapsed into a single count.

There’s also a 3-day swap charge typically applied on Wednesdays. This accounts for the settlement of trades over the weekend when markets are closed but positions remain open.

For swap-free accounts, this means:

  • The 3-day charge consumes three days of your swap-free allocation.
  • If your swap-free period is 10 days and you hold a position over a Wednesday, 3 days will be deducted at once.
  • This applies regardless of whether the position is long, short, or hedged.

It’s important to factor this in when planning to hold positions over midweek, especially if you’re nearing the end of your swap-free period.
